About Me

I’m a registered BACP counsellor offering one-to-one counselling to adults in Worthing, West Sussex. Every client brings something unique to counselling, but some of the most common issues I’ve worked with are anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and family/relationship problems. I also have experience of working with many other issues but over the years I’ve gained considerable experience working with addiction (notably gambling); illness and long-term health conditions; and issues associated with ageing.

I offer a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential relationship. Whether you’re suffering from poor mental health and well-being, or are overwhelmed by emotional problems that you feel unable to cope with on your own, a counselling relationship can help you to handle things and bring about change in your relationship to yourself and with others.

I’m a person-centred practitioner. This is a humanistic approach to counselling based on the understanding that we all have within us the resources to live as fully as we can. At times we can lose connection with these resources and one way to re-connect with them is through a relationship that is genuine, non-directive and non-judgemental.

I offer short-term and long-term counselling. I also offer counselling to trainee counsellors. My fee is £40 per session. I work from quiet, modern, purpose-built rooms in a residential street in Worthing. Parking is free. Alternatively the train station is a 10-minute walk away.

I’m a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and I work in accordance with its ethical framework. BACP’s Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists is approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care under a scheme set up by the Department of Health to regulate the counselling profession.

Please feel free to email me or give me a call for a no-cost preliminary consultation.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’m a qualified and experienced person-centred counsellor/psychotherapist, and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I abide by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

I have experience of working with people affected by a range of issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, low confidence/self-esteem, depression, isolation/loneliness, illness, long-term health conditions, addiction (gambling, drug and alcohol, sex and pornography), unemployment, relationship/family difficulties, separation/divorce, and bereavement. I have personal experience of living with ME/CFS.

My work is supported by regular supervision and I’m committed to continued professional and personal development.

I trained as a person-centred counsellor between 2005-2008 and I’ve been working with clients since 2007. Between 2005-2006 I studied for Counselling Skills NVQ levels 1, 2 & 3 at City College, Brighton; and between 2006-2008 I took my Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling (FdSc) at Brighton University. I also have a BA and MA in English.

As well as seeing clients privately, I work for Gamcare in Brighton, seeing people who are affected by problem gambling. Alongside my counselling work, I continue to work with older people at Age UK Brighton & Hove where I have worked for fifteen years. Other interests which inform my work include literature, spirituality, and meditation.

I’m married and have a young daughter. When I have the time, I enjoy reading, writing, watching films, and cooking.

Services and Administration

I work with clients on a one-to-one basis in the privacy and comfort of a counselling room in Worthing. I’m also able to offer on-line/Skype or telephone appointments for those who are unable to travel.

Times and Prices

Individual counselling sessions last for 50 minutes. Sessions are usually held on a weekly basis. I work with individuals on both a long- and short-term basis. I usually recommend a minimum of 6 sessions, followed by a review, but the decision to end counselling at any point remains with the client.

The initial consultation is free, then the fee is £40 per session. Payment for in-person sessions can be made at the start or end of each session. Payment for telephone or on-line sessions must be made in advance.

There is no charge if more than 24 hours notice is given. Emergencies can, of course, be negotiated.

The counselling relationship is confidential. This means that I do not disclose any information you share with me to anyone else, except in the following circumstances:

As part of my ongoing professional development, I attend regular supervision and sometimes explore issues arising out of a counselling relationship with my supervisor. At such times I take care to protect the anonymity of my clients.

There are also certain legal circumstances in which a counsellor is obliged or encouraged to consider breaching confidentiality. If you are concerned about these, I am happy to discuss them with you.

Further information

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and for a no-obligation, no-charge initial consultation. I can usually offer new clients an appointment the following week, and sometimes sooner.
